AFP Digital Courses honoured at 4th Annual Anthem Awards
The platform received Silver in the “Product, Innovation, or Service” category for “Education, Art & Culture.” It also secured first place in the Anthem Community Voice Award, determined by public voting.
Selected from over 2,300 submissions across 34 countries, this achievement highlights the platform’s significant social impact through its innovative training in digital investigation techniques.
The award was judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, which recognises excellence in purpose-driven work worldwide.
AFP Digital Courses provide journalists with essential skills to investigate and work more efficiently and safely online. The courses cover topics such as combating election disinformation, effectively using social media, and geolocation. The programme was developed with the support of the Google News Initiative, and is available in four languages — English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
In two years, more than 20,000 journalists and journalism students have registered on the open-access platform, which has received positive feedback from journalism professors and professionals, with an overall satisfaction rate of 4.35 out of 5.
“We didn’t imagine we would reach so many people,” said Sophie Nicholson, Head of Project and Deputy Chief Editor of Digital Investigation at AFP. “We are grateful for the feedback from our users to help us keep updating and improving our training.”
Created in 2021, the Anthem Awards honour projects and organisations making a positive impact. The project is an initiative of the Webby Awards, the leading international organisation recognising excellence on the internet and hailed as the “Internet’s highest honour” by The New York Times.
