AFP wins 4 prizes at the 2021 POYi Awards
Four AFP photographers have been awarded in various categories on the 79th edition of the Pictures of the Year International Awards, the oldest photojournalism competition in the world.
Kirill Kudryavtsev, an AFP photographer based in Moscow, won an Excellence Award in the “Space on Earth” category for his photo of a women walking under snowfall in front of a Soyuz rocket installed as a monument in Baikonur city, near the Russian leased Kazakh Baikonur cosmodrome on December 05, 2021.
Belgrade-based photographer, Andreij Isakovic , won an Excellence Award in the “Sports Action3 category for his stunning photo of the moment when Mercedes’s British driver Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Dutch driver Max Verstappen collide during the Italian Formula One Grand Prix at the Autodromo Nazionale circuit in Monza, September 12, 2021.
Mohd Rasfan, an AFP photographer based in Kuala Lumpur, collected an Excellence Award in the “Olympic Life” category for his picture of Italy’s Enrico Grosso reacting as Japan’s Koki Kano falls down during the men’s epee individual qualifying bout during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at the Makuhari Messe Hall in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, on July 25, 2021.
Oli Scarff, based nearby Manchester, was granted an Excellence Award in the “Olympic Life” category for his shot that captured the moment when tears welled in the eyes of the gold medalist, Britain’s Thomas Daley, as he waited to receive his medal after winning the men’s synchronized 10m platform diving final event during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at the Tokyo Aquatics Center in Tokyo on July 26, 2021. Tom Daley achieved his goal of being awarded a gold medal at his fourth Olympic Games, having first competed at the 2008 summer Games in Beijing aged 14.
