Paul Ratje awarded at the 2021 Lucie Awards.

Paul Rajte receives the 2021 Lucie Awards “Impact Award” for his viral image of a U.S. Border Patrol officer attempting to detain a Haitian migrant in Del Rio, Texas.

His series prompted a wave of emotions in the United States, causing political leaders and the White House to react.

Originally from Mesilla, New Mexico, Paul Ratje collaborates frequently with the AFP. He lives in his home region of southern New Mexico and El Paso, Texas, where he focuses his lens on stories of immigration on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Launched in 2003, the Lucie Awards are part of the Lucie Foundation’s mission to honor master photographers, discover and cultivate emerging talent, and promote the appreciation of photography worldwide.
