The fall of the USSR, an AFP webdocumentary

Mikhail Gorbachev resigned on December 25, 1991, bringing an end to the Soviet Union.

AFP has created a web documentary illustrating this historic moment. It is made up of exceptional documents including original eyewitness accounts from key figures of the time, from dissidents as well as political and economic officials. Young people who did not experience this historic time are also interviewed, providing unexpected insight into the period.

Available in two languages -- French and English -- the documentary evokes the situation of 20 years ago, covering the fall of the Soviet Union up to today's Russia in the form of videos, text archives and photos, accompanied by audio, a timeline, and other elements.

The 90-minute web documentary makes full use of the wealth of AFP's content for an enriching educational experience.
