AFP participates in fact-checking discussion at Digital Media Asia 2024 conference

AFP participated in WAN-IFRA's Digital Media Asia 2024 conference held in Kuala Lumpur in April.

The event served as a platform for AFP's APAC commercial team to engage with clients, emphasise our competitive edge, and showcase the latest coverage that sets us apart.

APAC Editor-in-Chief Mehdi Lebouachera brought his expertise to a panel discussion titled "Fact-checking technologies and best practices." He discussed the development of the agency's digital investigation department, AFP Fact Check, since its establishment in 2017, highlighting the two pillars that drive its operations: continuous innovation and an unparalleled network of 150 journalists worldwide.

Lebouachera emphasised the effectiveness of our InVID tool, a project supported by the European Union and empowering factcheckers, journalists and NGOs worldwide to conduct swift and efficient fact-checking.

In addition, Lebouachera addressed the challenges posed by the rise of misinformation generated by AI, showcasing AFP's response through the development of VERA.ai. This consortium of 14 institutions works at improving the InVID plug-in with AI-powered tools to detect manipulated content across various formats (text, photo, video, audio) and in multiple languages.
