Lillian Suwanrumpha honoured by POY Asia 2023 Awards

AFP Bangkok-based photographer Lillian Suwanrumpha has won the Award of Excellence in the Portrait Series category of the Pictures of the Year Asia 2023.

Modelled after the prestigious Pictures of the Year International (POYi), POY Asia was created in 2020 to honour the work of photographers from Asia. Lillian’s portrait series “One Year On: The Women Determined to Work in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan” was part of an agency project to present the country one year after the Taliban took power. This portrait series, shot in Kabul, Kandahar and Herat provinces, shows Afghan women who are determined to continue working and studying under the Taliban, as they speak about their experiences since the takeover, as well as their future hopes and dreams.
