Two AFP photographers awarded by the White House News Photographers Association
Two AFP photographers – Jim Watson and Saul Loeb – were awarded at the 2016 ceremony of the WHNPA.
Jim Watson
Jim Watson was awarded the Second Place in the “Sports Action” category for his picture of Gold medalist Yarisley Silva of Cuba, screaming to celebrate clearing 4.85M, becoming the new women's pole vault world leader, during the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, in July 2015.
Jim Watson also received the Award of Excellence in the “Presidential” category for his picture of the US First Lady Michelle Obama adjusting US President Barack Obama’s bow tie as they await the arrival of Chinese President Xi Jingping at the White House for a State Diner in September 2015, in Washington DC.
Saul Loeb
Saul Loeb received the Award of Excellence in the “On Capitol Hill” category for his picture of the newly elected Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, Republican of Wisconsin, (L) joking about crying with outgoing Speaker John Boehner, Republican of Ohio, after being elected Speaker in the House Chamber at the US Capitol in Washington, DC, October 29, 2015.
