AFP photographer Josh Edelson, finalist for the 2021 “Covering Climate Now Journalism Awards”
His impressive cover of the “megafires” in California spotlights the climate emergency.
Josh Edelson, independent photographer based in San Francisco, California, has been working with AFP since 2012. “ 10 years covering wildfires in California, I've never seen anything like what this year brought. The new normal now seems to be that every fire season brings a new surprise”, he tells AFP.
His coverage for AFP of the “megafires” in northern California makes him one of three photographers preselected for the “Covering Climate Now Journalism Awards.”. These prizes are awarded in the name of the “Covering Climate Now” coalition of more than 450 media worldwide, including AFP. Names of the winners will be announced in early October.
