Intervention of Stéphane Delfour at Thai Fact-Checking Network's launch
Stéphane Delfour, AFP Director of the Bangkok bureau, participated Thursday August 24 in the launch of the "Thai Fact-Checking Network", a network of media and organizations committed to the fight against disinformation in Thailand, under the aegis of the Thai Media Fund (TMF), of which AFP is one of the main partners.
Invited to deliver the keynote speech of the event, Stéphane recalled that AFP had become in a few years the world leader in the field of the fight against disinformation, with more than 140 full-time fact-checkers operational in 82 countries and 26 languages. He hoped that the creation of this network "will help promote a safe and creative media ecosystem in Thailand" and assured that fact-checking "was a key element in regaining public trust" and that the role of a press agency like AFP was to prioritize facts in an increasingly polarized news world.
Thanks to a long-term agreement with the TMF, AFP Bangkok fact-checkers regularly conduct training sessions in digital investigation for Thai-speaking journalists. The TMF is an independent public body.
