A photo exhibition on 35 years of AFP reporting in South Africa

From March 8 to March 31, AFP will exhibit a selection of 25 photos showing its coverage of the country over the past 35 years at the Alliance française in Johannesburg.

 

The aim of the exhibition is to show how AFP has broadened its coverage, from one mainly focused on politics and breaking news during the terrible years of Apartheid, to a wider one telling the story of a whole country, its way of life, its culture, its sports news, etc.

Besides the exhibition, AFP will give 3 masterclasses open to the general public and students: two classes on photojournalism (from a coverage idea to its production and delivery to the customers) and a third one on fact-checking.

  • March 16: From pitching to publishing - A short introduction of how a photo desk works at a news agency by Wikus de Wet, AFP Africa Photo Editor. Tickets here.
     
  • March 23: Day-to-day coverage of news and sport - challenges on assignments and how to overcome them in order to timeously deliver by Phill Magakoe, AFP freelance photographer. Tickets here.
     
  • March 30: An introduction to fact-checking techniques by Tendai Dube, AFP Fact Check journalist. Tickets here.

Around 150 people, including several journalists and personalities, attended the opening on March 8. The exhibition will be shown in other Alliance française in South Africa and in neighbouring countries.
