Stockpile ofillegally harvested sandalwood ablaze at the headquarters of Directorate of Criminal Investigation

A stockpile of illegally harvested sandalwood is set ablaze at the headquarters of Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI)after it was seized in various operations by officials from local and foreign security agencies in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi on February 28, 2023. The 13.5 tonnes of the endangered east african sandalwood was ordered destroyed by a court earlier in February after it was variedly seized before being trafficked to fuel an illegal trade that has seen to an over-exploitation of this wood in Kenya that goes back to 2006, according to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Emergency crews searching wreckage after a train accident in Greece

This aerial drone photograph taken on March 1, 2023, shows emergency crews searching wreckage after a train accident in the Tempi Valley near Larissa, Greece. At least 32 people were killed and another 85 injured after a collision between two trains caused a derailment near the Greek city of Larissa late at night on February 28, 2023, authorities said. A fire services spokesman confirmed that three carriages skipped the tracks just before midnight after the trains -- one for freight and the other carrying 350 passengers –- collided about halfway along the route between Athens and Thessaloniki.
